Therapeutic Massage in Wensleydale, West Burton, Yorkshire Dales

Welcome to Better Health Massage

Therapeutic massage in the comfort of your own home

Hi, I'm Ruth Boddy

Thank you for visiting my website. I am a fully qualified and insured massage therapist. Providing treatments throughout the Yorkshire Dales. whether you want me to come to you, or you would rather visit me in West Burton. After moving back home to Wensleydale, I became a domiciliary carer. Whilst I could help many aspects of people's lives I couldn't help with pain and mobility.

This is what started my love of massage. I qualified in body massage in 2017 aiming to work within the Cancer and palliative care sector. In 2019 I completed the first ever NHS complementary therapies in Cancer and Palliative Care.

Whilst this is still an important area of focus for me. I firmly believe everyone should invest in self care. Whether helping with physical or mental health issues, or simply taking an hour out just as a treat for yourself.

I am a full member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists, you can view my profile here.

What are the benefits of massage?

Massage is the manual manipulation of soft body tissue. This hands on natural and holistic treatment is incredibly therapeutic and can have positive effects on every system of the body both physically and mentally.

Here are a few of the more common conditions that can be supported through massage:

Relieves stress and anxiety

Boosts energy levels

Improves sleep and aids relaxation

Improves flexibility and mobility

Improves mood

Nourishes the skin

Loosen tight muscles

Boosts the immune system

Aids digestion and circulation

Improves skin and muscle tone

Improves posture

Relieves aches and pains

Relieves headaches and tensions

...and so much more

We can all enjoy a therapeutic massage at any time, but making massage a regular part of your lifestyle can improve overall general well being inside and out.

Why choose mobile massage

Treated in the comfort of your own home

Spas and clinics are great, but having a massage or other treatment in your own home has so many benefits. There's no driving or parking worries. You set the scene. You choose the room, the lighting, the temperature and whether you want any candles or scents. You take control and have the massage the way you want it.

Appointments will be suited around you

Peace and quiet is great, but not being able to find time to leave the house shouldn't mean you can't have a treatment. I come at a time that's convenient for you, with evening and weekends appointments available. Home treatments are ideal for those with pain and mobility issues. Preventing a lot of unnecessary aggravation of you current condition.

A time for you to relax and unwind

Trouble sleeping or relaxing? An evening or a time when you have the place to yourself can really help. You can start relaxing before I arrive. And after your massage there’s no need to do a thing. You don’t need to go anywhere or drive. Just slip into something comfy and relax.

Treatments and Fees

Please note that times below are for the time you spend on the table. Unlike many clinics which will list a 60 minute massage, and the massage lasts 45 minutes. A 60 minute massage with me is the length of the treatment. The time taken for questions, setting up and tidying away are not included in that time and not charged for. Please allow around an additional 10 to 15 minutes for the full appointment.

appointments may be made for a specific treatment, as seen below, whether full body massage, facial or dry cupping as. However I also offer booking by time which is often the best way as we can tailor the treatment and mix and match different elements to suit your needs

Group bookings: Ideal if your a small group walking or cycling the dales in need of rejuvenating. Or a group of friends fancying an evening of pampering. Contact me for details of the different packages available.

A full body treatment can relax or invigorate. Whether you crave relaxation or need to include osteopathic techniques. Each treatment is tailored to the individual. It includes the back, legs, arms and neck.

Back, neck & shoulders

A popular treatment focusing on the upper body. We can carry so much pain, stress and tension in our back for so many reasons. So why not try a 30 or 40 minutes massage concentrating on these troublesome areas.

  • 30 minutes £25.
  • 40 minutes £30.
Deep tissue massage

This firm massage is a great treatment for those with aches, pains and tight muscles. Whether from sport, postural problems through working habits or those suffering with tension and stress.

Whilst many consider deep tissue massage the massage for the more athletic needing hard massage the deep pressure and slow rhythm of deep tissue is also great for emotional release. Our stresses and emotions are stored in our bodies, leading to tension in our muscles. once this tension is released and our bodies let go emotional release can occur

Although the technique works deeper and firmer than many techniques the slow rhythmical strokes means this shouldn’t be a painful massage but can result in a very relaxing treatment. Making it ideal for anyone that enjoys pressure in their massage.

  • Focused/specific area 40 minutes £30.
  • Full body 1 hour - £40, 1 hour 15 minutes - £50.
Hot and cold stones massage

A deeply warming and truly relaxing treatment. Hot stones are placed around areas of the body to warm muscles even before they are worked on. After oil is applied, heated basalt stones are used to warm tissues and muscles allowing for a massage treatment where both you and your knots just melt away The hot stones are used in long and rhythmic strokes with the heat doing the work, rather than the manipulation of tissues with traditional massage.

Choose whether Cold stones are included. Personally, I love them. The mix of hot and cold leaves you feeling invigorated , and your skin feeling brighter and fresher. Especially on the face.

  • Full body, top of your head to tips of your toes £45.
  • Enjoy a longer treatment £65.

Alternatively book by time. Combine the stones with other techniques and treatments - 90 minutes £65.

Book by time

Booking your massage by time is often the best way to go. The time is focused solely on the areas that either need attention, or you enjoy. Avoiding those you don’t. Whether back and arms, back and legs, or even head and feet. The choice is yours.

  • 30 minutes £25.
  • 40 minutes £30.
  • 60 minutes £40.
  • 75 minutes £50.
  • 90 minutes £60.
Tibetan hand & arm massage

Our hands and arms hold so much stress and tension Yet we rarely give them the love and attention they deserve. This Face the World treatment does just that. Tensions will be released as energy channels are opened to create a feeling of general well being. Wonderfully relaxing. Can be performed seated, so ideal for those with mobility issues. Great for those that perform repetitive activities with their hands. £25.

Thai yoga & foot massage

This Face the World treatment is both invigorating and deeply relaxing. The treatment is a mixture of firm massage, stretching and acupressure moves to stimulate reflex points. Comfortable passive stretches are followed by your legs and feet being firmly massaged leaving them feeling rejuvenated. £30.

Facial acupressure

This treatment is designed to remove the daily signs of stress that show on our faces. Leaving dull tired skin feeling younger and fresher. This technique applies pressure to the face, stimulating circulation, toning and relaxing muscles, improving skin tone. It soothes headaches, eases congestion. Almost like a natural face-lift, energy balance and flow is restored. Attention is also focused on easing any tensions in the shoulders, neck and scalp making an overall relaxing and calming treatment. A favourite.

Benefits may include stimulating circulation, tones and relaxes muscles, improves skin tone, restores energy balance and flow. Eases headaches, congestion and tension.

  • £35.
  • Combine with mini facial £40.
  • With back massage £45.
Cancer & palliative massage

It’s was always my aim to provide complementary therapies for those living with cancer or those within the palliative sector. In 2019 I completed The NHS Certificate in Complementary Therapies: Cancer and Palliative Care Pathway. Based at the Harrogate and District Foundation NHS Trust. My time was spent on the Sir Robert Ogden ward and in the main hospital on various wards. It was challenging and rewarding. But highlighted the many ways therapeutic touch can benefit.

Treatments are tailored specifically around you and your needs. Please contact me with any questions you may have about the massage treatments I provide and prices.

Manual lymphatic drainage

Not massage as such but a wonderfully soothing treatment. This very gentle, flowing and rhythmical technique is great for detoxing the lymphatic system, draining excess fluid from swollen limbs and simply relax.

Appointments arranged dependent on need. From 20 minutes. Focusing on small areas or full body.

Dry Cupping

Although achieving similar benefits, Dry Cupping therapy differs from massage. Massage is about applying pressure to tight muscles. Dry cupping is about creating a vacuum. This suction removes stagnant blood and brings new blood flow to the area being treated. This stimulation creates a stretch reflex in the muscles, improving pliability, mobility and reducing pain.

Is it Painful?

In some treatments the client may be left with red or purple marks on the skin. Although they look like bruises they do not create a trauma and the treatment shouldn't be painful. The cups may be left for up to 20 minutes but each treatment will vary in terms of time and pressure to suit the individual.

Benefits

Joint and muscular pain

Plantar fasciitis

ITB syndrome

improves mobility

abdominal issues

Dry cupping can be a stand alone treatment. Alternatively combine it with massage.

Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage has been practised throughout India for thousands of years, with its origins in Ayurveda an ancient system of medicine. Its is only more recently we have truly recognised its significance and benefits in western society. Traditionally Indian head massage is performed with the client seated and is a treatment carried out on the upper back, shoulders, arms, neck, scalp and face.

Indian head massage is a wonderful treatment for those with tension in their neck and shoulders, offering great relief. Indian head massage stimulates circulation and loosens the scalp. The work on the scalp and face creates calm and relaxation. Relieves stress and anxiety and if practised regularly can lift mood and clears perspective. like the facial acupressure Indian head massage provides relief for those suffering with earaches, sinusitis, grinding teeth, aching jaws and migraines .

Indian Head massage is a wonderful treatment for those short on time. even 30 minutes can provide relaxing and calming benefits. Have more time? enjoy a longer. We can incorporate the hands and spend more time everywhere.

Indian head massage is done seated but can be done lying down. Oil can be used but can also be done perfectly without.

Frequently asked questions

What happens during a massage?

At our first appointment we need to complete a confidential client consultation form. This asks about your health and lifestyle including any health conditions and medication you may be taking. This is what helps to decide the most beneficial treatment for you and possibly any aftercare advice or exercises that may help. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. We discuss and agree the massage beforehand so no surprises.

After this I just need enough space to get my table set up and a place for my oils. You have the massage. Then we discuss any aftercare. I pack away and leave you to relax.

How long will the massage last?

The length of the massage is different to the length of the appointment . If you book a one hour massage you receive a one hour massage. You then need to allow additional time for me to set up and pack away as well as any time for questions and aftercare. Allow roughly an additional 15 to 20 minutes. The first appointment will take longer as it also includes the client consultation form which can be quick or in depth.

What do I need to wear for my appointment?

Just whatever makes you comfy. Whatever you wear normally or like to relax around the home in. Many clients are even already in their pj’s and dressing gown when I arrive.

Do I need to undress?

How much you need to undress depends on the massage you are having and the areas treated. During a full body massage it is usually routine to be down to wearing your underwear. However towels and drapes keep you covered and warm. With only the area being worked on exposed. If I’m working on one of your legs the rest of you will be completely covered. It’s important that you’re comfortable with everything we do.

Do I need to provide anything?

Not really. I bring my table, oils, towels and music with me. Very occasionally I may ask to use a cushion or pillow if required for comfort. Some clients do like to provide their own blankets. They don’t get dirty so saves on washing. I ask you to set the scene. You choose the room we use. The temperature, the lighting, any candles or scents. You can even play your own music. I believe this can assist in making you feel more comfortable as you’re in control.

Can I talk during my massage?

I’d like to hope that you can totally switch off and just enjoy the treatment. Even fall asleep if its a relaxing massage. But really it’s up to you. I won’t initiate a conversation but if you feel the need to talk then we can. Sometimes it even helps by getting something off your chest.

How often should I have a massage?

That depends on the individual. Sometimes you may need a few treatments close together while we address the problem. After which we can go further apart. On average many clients like a massage every 4 to 6 weeks. Others enjoy one every week. Its entirely up to you.

How will I feel afterwards?

We all react differently. It also depends on the type of massage you have had. Most will feel a sense of calm or rejuvenated. In some cases you may feel sore for a day or two if you’ve had a deep massage. You may feel slightly worse while your body starts to heal itself. Its a positive sign that shows something is shifting. It won’t last long and afterwards you should feel an improvement. Any questions, just ask.
